Over the last few weeks articles have appeared in the Mainstream news and on Social Media highlighting Vaping Health Issues and deaths in the USA .

First and Foremost  no e liquids (TPD approved) have been identified as a causal factor 

Severe Pulmonary disease, Popcorn lung have been mentioned with up to 450 people suffering in the USA.  The suggestion is that these ailments are Vaping related. 

Health Authorities  in the US have identified  the use  Cannabis Cartridges, Diacetyl and Inhaled Vitamin E oils.

Cannabis Cartridges – Illegal in Ireland often contain Vitamin E as a bonding filler in Oil form, this Oil apparently forms a film in the lungs  leading to Pulmonary Issues. there is no issue with Orally consumed Vitamin E.

Diacetyl – Is not an approved Ingredient in e -liquids according to TPD (Tobacco Products Directive) the HSE implemented Vaping Products Guidelines. So Irish/UK products will not contain Diacetyl.

In the USA the maximum allowable strength for Nicotine in Vape Products is 50mg, the maximum here under the TPD is 20mg. 

The FDA said many of the samples tested by the states or by the agency as part of the investigation contain tetrahydrocannabinol (or THC), the psychoactive component of cannabis.

Most of those samples with THC tested also contained significant amounts of Vitamin E acetate, the agency said.

“Consumers are urged to avoid buying vaping products on the street, and to refrain from using THC oil or modifying/adding any substances to products purchased in stores,” the FDA said in a statement.

In summary , E-Liquids bought from legitimate sources adhere to the Health Service Executive standards, so no Diacetyl , no Vitamin E, no THC and as such are not seen as factors in the Health issues in the USA
